Veggy Malta tried out The Pasta Shop at PAMA and PAVI to see what they have to offer. It turns out that they have a decent selection of vegan fresh pasta along with their vegetarian range.
The fresh pasta is all locally produced!
I tried the Vegan Arancini Funghi. Sizeable arancini filled with whole grain rice, fresh mushrooms, soya cooked cream , funghi porcini and breadcrumbs. When I say it’s sizeable I mean it. After all you expect an arancina to be big. One important thing to remember…. defrost the arancini for 2 hours before cooking. My first attempt was patched up as I didn’t bother to read that part in the instructions. The second attempt went well. Having four in a packet means you can keep on trying (that’s an excuse in eating more and more).
Next on the list was the Ravioloni alla Contadina. These ravioli are a delicious twist to the traditional ricotta filled ravioli. They are filled with garlic, onions, sesame seeds, herbs, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes and walnuts. I added a little bit of red sauce on them just to add colour as they are abundant in their taste.
The Pasta Shop have other vegan options including the Lunette Pumpkin & Cashew Cheese which is vegan as well. Alternatively you can try the Vegan Lasagna Vegetariana ready made for two people. Clearly one is lost for choice for some good vegan (and vegetarian) fresh pasta.
