Veggy Malta went to Livwell in Naxxar and met up with Joselle Borg Meilak to understand why she opened a fully gluten free health and snack shop.
Livwell is a quaint health and snack shop situated on the outer part of Naxxar just opposite Valyou Supermarket. The main distinguishing feature about Livwell is that it offers a safe and 100% gluten free environment. It certainly is a breath of fresh air for gluten intolerant individuals to find a venue totally centred around their needs. All the food, fresh bread, pasta, salads, pizzas, whatever … are gluten free and ready to consume. To achieve this Joselle ensures that the products served are only sourced from strict gluten free suppliers.
You will also find lactose free products at the shop. It is vegan and vegetarian friendly venue, yet please note that it is not an exclusive vegan/vegetarian shop.
Being a snack shop, you can expect to find coffee. At Livwell you are served with organic coffee along with a selection of soy and almond milks to add with it (DO YOU HAVE NORMAL DAIRY??). An espresso only costs €1.20. If coffee is not your thing, there is a selection of herbal teas and also a number of organic (and otherwise) juices. You can enjoy you coffee with a fresh raw vegan desert prepared by Jo’s Delights.
Whilst Livwell mainly focuses as a place to eat drink (gluten free) and chill out, it also offers a range of products that can be taken home. The assortment is all gluten free and in some cases also lactose free. You will find frozen products like ravioli, pizza, paztizzi and rosetta along with a selection of dry food.
Livwell accepts POYC vouchers for celiacs.

A 100% gluten free site .. now that’s a great idea. I have been diagnosed as gluten intolerant for a years now and it is a good to start seeing more places catering for us.
