Veggy Malta looks at some vegetarian options for this Christmas whilst entertaining family, friends and guests. We tried out a cheese platter made from five cheese by Fior di Vita.
The five cheeses are Vintage Cheedar, Herbs & Garlic Cheddar, Red Leicester, Irish Cheddar and Farmhouse Mature Cheddar. All five cheese are suitable for vegetarians, meaning that they are not using animal rennet. Whilst them being suitable for vegetarians is stated on the back label, Quality Foods Marketing Ltd has confirmed the absence of animal rennet. So vegetarians can chew away.
Whilst one would think that given that they are mainly cheddar cheeses they would taste the same, that isn’t the case. Now obviously the Red Leicester and the Herbs & Garlic Cheddar will stand out completely, yet you can taste the differences in the other three as well.
Whilst some might state otherwise, I would suggest that you should pile it up. So what can you add to the cheese platter. Let start with vegetables like carrots, green pepper, asparagus, cucumber, olives and pickles. But also think of fruit like apples, grapes, berries, pears, orange, strawberries and dried fruit like banana. You also should add some nuts like walnuts, peanuts, mixed nuts. You can also add some little bowls of honey, jams and dips. And finally some crackers (avoid the salted) and you can also cut some bread and toast it.
Remember to ideally put in one knife per cheese, especially if you might be adding other softer cheeses to the mix.
