Veggy Malta tried a Banana date & walnut cake by Vegan Bakes by Lisa M. This is a vegan cake made by Lisa who is a vegan herself. As a starter, the cake came nicely wrapped and the presentation is ideal when going to friends and taking a token gift with you.
Importantly is the cake itself. Lisa uses organic kamut flour and spelt flour, medjool dates and fresh banana and no processed sugar to make the cake. The taste of the mature dates is positively evident in the cake and the walnuts give it that something extra. The flavours blend well and are balanced. There is a natural sweetness in the cake coming from the dates and the banana
Given that I was tasting a freshly baked cake, still warm, the cake was radiating the smell of baked bananas. It was homely, and one could say that it smelt like going into grandma’s house.
The organic kamut flour provides nutrients that are essential in good health including dietary fibre, manganese, magnesium and niacin. Add with this are the benefits from walnuts which is also a source of omega -3-fats. Plus the dates rich in minerals and also vitamins including A and K along with the banana. In all it is a healthy but tasty cake.
This vegan Banana date & walnut cake is an ideal alternative to traditional cakes used in parties or when having friends over at home.
