Malta is gearing up for its biggest-ever Malta Meat Free Week, taking place between the 3rd and 11th of November 2025! This year’s campaign is set to be the most impactful to date, with a bold message: our food choices matter. The global meat industry is one of the biggest drivers of deforestation, water scarcity, biodiversity loss, and climate change, and Malta is ready to take a stand.

Personalities and influencers joining the challenge
Malta Meat Free Week 2025 calls on the public to go meat-free for just one week. We show how even small individual actions can collectively make a major difference. The campaign is supported by a host of local influencers and personalities. To mention a few: Keith Demicoli, Albert Buttigieg MP, James Ryder, Amber, Ryan & Josmar, Janice Chetcuti MP, and experts. They will join alongside many voices from Malta’s environmental and animal advocacy communities. Through social media, television features and online content, these advocates will inspire people across Malta to take the challenge and experience the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle.

Cooking lessons in collaboration with the Mediterranean Culinary Academy
This year we will have a collaboration with the Mediterranean Culinary Academy. This year’s edition will feature exclusive cooking lessons designed to help participants discover how simple, healthy, and delicious plant-based food can be. These interactive sessions are the perfect way to prepare for the challenge and to explore new recipes that make going meat-free not only achievable but enjoyable.

Prizes and offers galore
Importers, supermarkets and restaurants are once again joining the movement. Participating supermarkets are showcasing special offers on plant-based products by popular brands. Also a number of restaurants across Malta will feature dedicated meat-free options and menus throughout the week, giving participants a taste of a more sustainable future.
The reason behind the challenge
Darryl Grima, founder of VeggyMalta and Malta Meat Free Week, said: “Our food system is at the heart of the climate crisis. By reducing meat consumption, we take direct action against deforestation, factory farming, and greenhouse gas emissions. Malta Meat Free Week is more than a challenge: it’s a statement that we care about our planet, our health, and the animals we
share it with. This year’s campaign (the 8th edition) also comes with bigger and better prizes — dinners, hotel breaks, spa retreats — a worth of more than €2,000 in total, as a thank-you to those choosing change.”

Why go meat-free?
1. For the planet:
The livestock industry generates more greenhouse gases than all global transport combined. By skipping meat for a week, you can help reduce methane emissions, protect rainforests, and save thousands of litres of water per meal.
2. For your health:
A plant-based diet is rich in nutrients and linked to lower cholesterol, improved heart health, and reduced risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes. It’s a natural way to feel lighter, more energised, and revitalised.
3. For the animals:
Every meat-free meal is an act of compassion. It helps reduce the suffering of billions of animals raised in factory farms each year and supports a kinder, more ethical food system.
Join the thousands of already-registered participants who will take the Malta Meat Free Week Challenge this November and be part of a growing global movement for a better world — for people, animals, and the planet.
Together, we can create lasting change — one meal at a time.
