  • 3/4 cup plain flour,
  • 2 tsp sugar,
  • 1 tbls polenta,
  • 2 tsp baking powder,
  • 2 tsp salt,
  • 1 tsp black pepper,
  • 3/4 cup soy milk (or any vegan milk you have in your fridge),
  • 2 1/2 cup chopped yellow onions,
  • 2 fresh spring onion onions,
  • 1/4 cup oil,
  • sweet chilli sauce or chutney

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, polenta, sugar, salt and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Gradually add the vegan milk to the dry ingredients and whisk until you get a smooth and thick batter. The consistency should be similar to pancake batter.
  3. Add the thinly sliced onions to the batter and mix until they are well coated.
  4. Heat oil in a deep pan or skillet over medium heat.
  5. Using a spoon or your hands, drop small portions of the onion batter into the hot oil. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy on both sides.
  6. Once cooked, (around 3 minutes on both sides) remove the fritters from the oil and place them on a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
  7. Serve the vegan crispy onion fritters hot with some sweet chilli sauce or your favourite dip or chutney.

Enjoy these delicious vegan crispy onion fritters as a snack or appetizer!
