Apple crumble has always been a go-to comfort dessert especially in the cold winter months, and this vegan version holds the original ingredients you love—soft, cinnamon-spiced apples and a crisp topping—without any dairy. It’s easy to make, naturally dairy-free, and perfect served warm with a scoop of vegan ice cream or warm custard. You can easily turn it into a gluten-free delicacy if you substitute the flour for a gluten-free mix. The details are in your hands!

Ingredients

  • 2kg sweet apples (about 8), peeled and chopped into chunks
  • 80g Good Earth Jumbo Oat Flakes
  • 100g Good Earth plain white flour
  • 55g brown sugar
  • 50g cane sugar (creates a deeper caramelised flavour)
  • 2ml salt
  • 2ml ground allspice, cinnamon, or cardamom
  • 75ml smooth-tasting oil of your choice (sunflower oil is ideal as it is neutral)
  • 60g Good Earth walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 60ml agave syrup
  • 5ml cornstarch (this is optional, you can add it if you chose apples which release more juices than others)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to (175°C) and lightly grease a 20cm baking dish or foil tray.
  2. In a large bowl, prepare the crumble by adding the oats, walnuts, apples, agave syrup, sugars, oil, salt and spice, stirring well to make sure the dry ingredients are moist and well incorporated with the rest.
  3. Transfer the mixture into the baking dish.
  4. Bake for about 40 minutes until the topping is golden brown. If you see that the apples are still hard, place foil over the pan and bake until the apples are tender.
