Many of us know that ginger has a lot of beneficial properties. I will not delve into this as I actually made a post on 10 health benefits of ginger – just as Confucius would have recommended. I want to follow up on this by showing how easy it is to make fresh ginger tea and therefore drink it every day. It will help detox and cleanse your body apart from strengthening your immunity system.

What is the trick in making good and healing ginger tea? Well simple. Lots of fresh ginger. Cut the ginger and leave to simmer for a long time. This will bring out the full flavour. It is then complimented with lemon or lime, as these two blend well together. Finally you can sweeten it with honey or agave nectar (vegan alternative) or otherwise omit if you don’t want to sweeten it.

Preparation instructions – Ginger tea

  1. Wash the fresh (organic if you wish) ginger, and peel of the skin to maximise the surface area. Then cut into very thin slices.
  2. Put the water in a deep pan and add the ginger and boil for at least 10 minutes. If you want a very strong tea leave it boil for 20 minutes and use more slices.
  3. Remove from the heat and leave it simmer for another 10 minutes.
  4. Remove the slices of ginger using a sieve or anything similar.
  5. Add the lemon or lime. (I like to add the lemon pulp to give added flavour).
  6. Place in the various glasses or mugs and then add honey or agave nectar according to taste.

Ingredients ginger tea

  • 4cm of ginger cut into thin slices (depending on how strong you want it)
  • 400ml of water
  • ½ lemon (juiced)
  • 1 or 2 tablespoons of honey (or agave nectar) to taste

Now for the Ginger tea with milk. This will produce a tea that is very soothing to the stomach.

Preparation instructions – Ginger tea with milk

  2. Put the water in a deep pan and add the ginger and boil for at least 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from the heat and add the milk.
  4. Gently simmer for around 5 minutes.
  5. Remove the slices of ginger using a sieve or anything similar.
  6. Serve and enjoy.
